Samantha Thomson - Company Captain/Officer In Charge Anchor Section
Q - What do you do as a "day job"?
I am a Staff Nurse in the Rehab Unit at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary. This helps me with lots of Boys' Brigade stuff as I have special responsibility for looking after Student Nurses - so I enjoy mentoring and being part of a team. Q - Describe what you do at Boys' Brigade At Boys' Brigade I have two jobs.. I am the Officer In Charge of Anchor Section - which is fantastic! We have great fun playing and learning every week and seem to do a great deal of laughing and eating which works well for me! The other wee job I have is Company Captain. This is a great honour and is a post which the St. Michael's & South Kirk Session, Dr. Bond and Solway Battalion have deemed me to be suitable for (no pressure there then(!)) I am responsible for overseeing the Company as a whole and ensuring that we adhere the National Standards and keep to the Boys' Brigade ethos. This is a job made easier with the fabulous team of Leaders we have at 2nd Dumfries. Q - What is the most enjoyable thing about The Boys' Brigade? There are so many great things about Boys' Brigade.. The first has to be the friendship and fellowship that we have as a staff and as a Community with the Boys and the Parents. I really enjoy taking part in the Battalion Eventsas it allows us to meet with other Boys' Brigade Companies and share ideas and have fun.Camps are excellent fun and allow our Boys and Young Men a freedom to try adventures away from home. It is a very rewarding activity being a Boys' Brigade Leader. Q - Tell us what your favourite activity at Boys' Brigade is? Well I very much enjoy the sense of pride and acheivement I see on the faces of the Leaders and Boys on Parents' Night when their hard work is rewarded. Q - What is your ambition/vision for the future of Boys' Brigade? My vision for the future is to continue as we are and build on the excellent foundations and ensure that we can continue to take our company forward to meet the needs of our young men in a safe and friendly environment. I am proud of our acheivements and would love to add to our equipment and experiences we are able to offer. Q - What else do you enjoy doing in your spare time? In my spare time I love spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy reading and hate housework and try to enjoy life. |
Jim Dillett - Officer In Charge Junior Section
Q - What do you do as a "day job"?
I work for IBM as a Senior IT Manager. I am responsible for keeping the Business IT Applications up and running in support of IBM across Europe. Q - Describe what you do at Boys' Brigade I am officer in charge of the Junior Section. Q - What is the most enjoyable thing about The Boys' Brigade? I enjoy the fun and fellowship on a Friday night and during the events we have throughout the year. Q - Tell us what your favourite activity at Boys' Brigade is? A close run thing between Dodge Ball and the Chocolate game! Q - What is your ambition/vision for the future of Boys' Brigade? I want to see the Boys Brigade continue to flourish in the region. Q - What else do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Walk the dog, watch and play football and if any time left I'll try and get onto the golf course! |
Jo Rowan - Lieutenant/Reserve Leader
Q - What do you do as a "day job"?
I am a Cook1 at Maxwelltown High School. Q - Describe what you do at Boys' Brigade I work with the Junior Section as a Lieutenant. I am also the Company Treasurer. Q - What is the most enjoyable thing about The Boys' Brigade? I enjoy watching the Boys having fun and working together as a team. Q - Tell us what your favourite activity at Boys' Brigade is? My favourite activities at Boys' Brigade is the games, quizzes and our annual Company Camp. Q - What is your ambition/vision for the future of Boys' Brigade? I wish to watch the Company prosper the way we have in previous years and keep the numbers up! Q - What else do you enjoy doing in your spare time? In my spare time I enjoy Reading. |
Iain Rowan - Company Secretary
Q - What do you do as a "day job"?
I work at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, Edinburgh as a Sales Specialist, Group & Events - Responsibility for managing and converting all group and event business, including contracting, in order to maximise revenue and utilisation of meeting/event space. Working to ensure, at a minimum, delivery of budgeted revenues and hand over to Event Planning team, in addition to managing group room and function diary inventory. Q - Describe what you do at Boys' Brigade I am the Company Secretary for the 2nd Dumfries Company which means I am a member of the Executive Committee responsible for the running and management of the Company. I am further responsible for all Internal & External Communications for the Company, I also assist greatly with all IT & Web functions. I am also the Battalion Secretary sitting on the Battalion Executive responsible for communication and management at a local area level. I am also on the West Lowland Area Queen's Badge Committee which is responsible for the organisation and running of the Completion Residential, the final requirement in the highest award within The Boys' Brigade. In this capacity I am responsibility for the Online Registrations for this course as well as the Committee website. Q - What is the most enjoyable thing about The Boys' Brigade? I enjoy the interaction with Boys and fellow Leaders in the Company and the Battalion.I also enjoy the satisfaction taken from the Boys' enjoyment of BB activities. Q - Tell us what your favourite activity at Boys' Brigade is? My favourite activity has got to be the Camps - whether it is a one night or weekend Company Residential Experience or a week-long Battalion Outdoor Activity Experience! Q - What is your ambition/vision for the future of Boys' Brigade? I would hope the 2nd Dumfries continues to grow and florish with more Boys and Leaders joining the fantastic experiences shared on a weekly basis. I would also like to see the offering of Boys' Brigade improve in line with the wants and desires of our members. Q - What else do you enjoy doing in your spare time? With a very demanding career and being involved in lots of different activities I rarely have spare time but when I do I enjoy socialising with friends and family. |
Adam Higgins - Helper Anchor Section & Junior Section
Q - What do you do as a "day job"?
Tesco Tech Support Advisor Q - Describe what you do at Boys' Brigade I am an Anchor Section Helper and the Seniors Coordinator for the Solway Battalion . Q - What is the most enjoyable thing about The Boys' Brigade? Outings and Battalion Events. Q - Tell us what your favourite activity at Boys' Brigade is? Dodgeball! :) Q - What is your ambition/vision for the future of Boys' Brigade? To become more outgoing and have bigger, better and more actioned packed activities. Hopefully become more involved with other Battalions/Districts. Q - What else do you enjoy doing in your spare time? I am a Photography Student, doing my Second Year this year. Hopefully move on to do Forensic Science Photography. |
